Crooked Creek Farm offers private and group lessons onsite. Private lessons are 30 minutes of instruction. Group lessons (2-6 riders) are 45-60 minutes of instruction. After the beginning level, riders are required to have their horse tacked up by lesson time and/or be able to cool their horse out and untack afterwards. We require beginner riders to take private lessons until they are able to successfully walk and trot without assistance.

During riding lessons we focus on foundational skills for the hunter/jumper arenas as well as low level eventing. We have very high standards for our riders and their balance/communication skills with their horses and focus on mastering one skill before moving on. Riders work on their balance and communication with the horse over small obstacles (2′ is the highest we jump on school horses).

Lessons include everything from horse care to riding. We strive to teach a comprehensive knowledge of horsemanship, safety, and independence. In the saddle we focus on primarily hunter/jumper skills while bringing in a few theories and techniques from dressage. On the ground we work on everything from saddle fitting to equine first aid.

2024 is divided into five riding sessions. Each riding session requires a commitment of all 9, consecutive weeks. Riders should commit to a day and time and plan to be at the barn during that time every week. Lessons are $65 each. The dates below are tentative and subject to change.

May 19-June 9 (Mini Break/In House Show on June 8)

June 10-Agust (FRC Show on July 13)

August-September 7 (FRC Show on Sept. 7)

September 2 – November 1 (FRC Show on October 26)
