Regular operations at the barn came to a screeching halt mid way through March 2020. Most riders were suddenly doing their school work at home, weekly lessons were canceled, and restaurants all around us were closed up tight. Taking a page from Butterscotch’s book (the queen of social distancing), we thought of a few ideas/assignments from the barn to keep you busy!
- Write an article about a topic of your choice for Barn News and email it to us to be published!
- Deep clean your room like it is spring cleaning day and you are working on the tack room. Take everything off the shelves and dust top to bottom.
- Binge Noelle Floyd’s youtube channel. They give training tips, tour olympic barns, and more!
- Clean and polish your riding boots like you are going to a horse show. They will be clean, display worthy, and the next time you ride they will shine!
- Use an Ace bandage to practice your polo wrapping. Siblings, table legs, and stuffed animals make good “horse legs” to practice on.
- Read the entire Heartland series, then watch it on Netflix. Spoiler alert: the books are better (and different) than the show!
- Learn a Dressage test at home. Practice on foot, then send us a video to post on Instagram! Test may be found here.
- Stay in shape! Not riding for weeks on end will leave you out of shape and off balance when we return to regular lessons. Use Yoga videos to keep your muscles toned up and your balance on point. Take a run to keep up your endurance!
- Take this time to study and learn your horse parts. Next time you play the “Potato Game” or visit 4H you will be an expert!
- Draw, paint, or collage a picture of one of the horses and email it to us to be spotlighted on our facebook and instagram.
- At the barn we make goals for horse shows, tangible things we can achieve no matter how the day goes or they way the judge feels. Make your own goals for today, this week, this month, and this year. Then work towards them!
