Riding Lessons
Crooked Creek Farm offers private and group lessons onsite. Private lessons are 30 minutes of instruction. Group lessons (2-6 riders) are 45-60 minutes of instruction. After the beginning level, riders are required to have their horse tacked up by lesson time and/or be able to cool their horse out and untack afterwards. We require beginner riders to take private lessons until they are able to successfully walk and trot without assistance.
During riding lessons we focus on foundational skills for English riding. Through groundwork, flat work and obstacles, we teach riders the importance of communication with their horses. We have very high standards for our riders and their balance/communication skills with their horses and focus on mastering one skill before moving on. Riders work on their balance and communication with the horse over small obstacles (bridges, gates, small jumps, etc.).
Lesson Options
1. Evaluation / First-Time / Special One-Time Ride – $100
- 30-minute ride (includes grooming & tacking instruction)
- $50 non-refundable deposit required to schedule
2. A La Carte Lessons – $90
- Typically 30-minute private lessons (occasionally offered in groups)
- No cancellation penalty
- Scheduled up to one week in advance
3. Weekly Lessons – $300/month
- Four lessons per month, same day/time each week
- Payment is due on or before the 1st of each month
- Any make-up lessons for planned absences must be scheduled by the 1st of the month
- No changes or cancellations after the 1st; you are committed for the month
- Lessons missed due to illness, school, or trips cannot be made up
- Lessons canceled by the barn or due to weather will be rescheduled at the rider’s convenience
