Being Thankful for Who We Are

Being Thankful for Who We Are

A Morning Devotion by Heidi Sanders

Yesterday I was sitting on the couch with my family. My mom told my brother and me that we needed to think of things we could do around the house to help out. She mentioned that she wanted us to do things that we felt like we were good at and could remember to do. I first thought she was just using that as a way to get us to do chores, but then she said it was a way to get us to use our strengths and bring out the strengths in everyone. This immediately made me think that I do not do this enough every day.

I always compare myself to others and sometimes I feel like other people are better than I am. I then worry that I am not the best at riding horses or the smartest in the class. This made me realize that all that stuff is not as important as it is to be happy with the way God made us. God made each and every one of us the way he wanted us to be and it was not a mistake. Whenever we put ourselves or others down, that makes God sad and makes him feel like we don’t appreciate him. Instead of looking at the negative in life, we always need to bring out the strengths in others and ourselves. We don’t need to brag, but we need to be thankful. In other words, “Don’t erase it, embrace it!”
